The Home Front Cares provides an emergency financial bridge and responsive support to Colorado’s military members, veterans and their families impacted by service to our Nation.

That Colorado military members, veterans and their families achieve stability and hope for a successful future.

We provide emergency grants to pay essential life expenses like rent, utilities and car repairs. We serve all of Colorado, and have strong partnerships throughout the state with other non-profit and referral agencies, military installations, the VA and other veteran service organizations. Our case workers provide referral services to many of these agencies, ensuring our clients receive financial, family and emotional counseling and services, even when they do not qualify for our financial support.

We provide grants, not loans, and our clients are vetted to confirm their military service and financial need. THFC pays the vendors, such as the landlord or utility company, directly in order to ensure that the financial assistance goes to pay exactly what it's intended for. Despite this due diligence, we are structured to act fast. Many of our grants are approved in less than 24 hours—an essential capability because quite often, our aid is the last "save" that keeps a veteran from being evicted or a military family from having their power turned off.

THFC began in 2003 as an all-volunteer initiative led by two retired Air Force colonels, Bob Carlone and Joe Henjum. As Vietnam veterans, they were keenly aware of the financial and emotional struggles for families of deployed military members, and how easily these families could fall through the cracks of bureaucracy and society. In 2004, the organization incorporated as a 501(c)3, and in our first full year of operation, we provided some $34,000 in aid to military families in the Pikes Peak region. Since then, THFC has grown into a statewide agency with multiple staff members serving all branches of the U.S. military, including Reservists and the Colorado National Guard. In 2015, nearly 100% of our clients were veterans now separated from the service.

Our administrative overhead is about 20% (2016 audit) — an outstanding figure for a non-profit. Approximately 80 cents of every dollar goes toward aid and programs. According to Guidestar, the vast majority of veteran serving organizations provide no direct financial assistance to families in need. And, only 10% provide over $250,000 annually. The Home Front Cares is proud to be a part of this 10% nationwide with over $400,000 in direct financial assistance provided to Colorado military and veteran families last year.

The Home Front Cares is a non-profit organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code. Donations are tax deductible to the maximum extent allowed by law.
