Our Mission...

·        "The Home Front Cares" program provides support for the Pikes Peak Region's military families of all services who have been impacted by deployment in harm's way.

·        To accomplish this mission, funds, goods and services are solicited from the community and distributed to needy families through non-profit and support organizations that serve the military.

·        Privacy and dignity of families are maintained in The Home Front Cares' program.

Our History...

·         The start of military action in Iraq on 20 March 2003, spurred two retired Air Force Colonels, Bob Carlone and Joe Henjum, to initiate plans for the start of The Home Front Cares program.

·         The initial action was to brief the boards and memberships of the Military Officers' Association of America (formerly TROA) and the Retired Enlisted Association (TREA). Both chapters enthusiastically endorsed the concept.

·         When the Military Affairs Council (MAC) of the Chamber of Commerce endorsed the concept, numerous civic organizations expressed interest to assist needy military families and become sponsors.

·        The program was announced to the public on 13 May 2003 at the Colorado Springs' City Hall by Mayor Lionel Rivera, with a large group of local and military organizers present.

Our Parameters...

·         Support is for the needy military families, residing in the Pikes Peak Region whose spouse is on Active Duty, activated Reserve and Guard personnel, who have been impacted by deployment in harm's way.

·         A financial needs assessment of recipients is accomplished by the military family support agencies at the military installations, except in emergency situations.

·        Funds for goods or services are paid directly to vendor or creditor.

·          Military identification and deployment verification is accomplished by the installation family service units.
